Artist Statement

I am mostly an abstract painter, however unseen worlds (like those known about through science) often mix with urban landscape in pieces. The extent to which these sources of inspiration are recognizable ranges. On one end of the spectrum paintings contain obvious depictions of what I see in during my day to day – I walk around Boston and I work in a molecular research lab – cells, seagulls, construction cranes, trees to those that appear to be all about color, texture, etc. Still, my seemingly near pure abstract paintings riff off of the extreme textures and history of weathered buildings and/or made-up interior realms.

No matter the inspiration, it always remains true that I love paint and have the most fun when figuring out ways to apply and stretch the capacity of the medium.
